Studying with the architect Charles Lemaresquier was a significant experience for Pierre Nocca. It is here that he begins to develop his interest in the potential for public sculpture and the dialogue that such works can open up between a city and its inhabitants. This interest in the realization of large-scale sculptures is a central characteristic of his works. It is a necessary element in understanding his art practice and it also explains why his works exist so rarely in private collections.
